Evelyn O’Donoghue’s exhibition Homeward features fiber-based work and investigates the experience of returning home after an extended period away. For O’Donoghue, it is the moment one realizes places and people have changed, the moment when an old version of oneself collides with a new one, the moment when responsibilities and priorities shift. Created during the past year, the work on display relates to her experiences since graduating from art school in 2022. Utilizing a range of fiber materials and techniques, the pieces reference everyday household items and their functions, while slight interventions lend them a grim whimsy. While things may not be the same upon returning home to a space and community, there is still a sense of familiarity in which one can find comfort.
